What made me do my own season colour analysis

I watched Inventing Anna on Netflix and there was this part where they say that Anna read a lot of fashion magazines and bought the exact stuff that was in the photos to look polished.

Doesn’t work that way.

Honestly, I spent a lot of hours watching MTV Stylecheck and sooooo many celebs said that they love wearing a white t-shirt with nice blue jeans my first thought was that should make anyone look good, right?

Also, there is this grey dress that Jennifer Aniston wears in one of the episodes of Friends and she looks absolutely gorgeous. I always wanted one like that but when I found one, it looked meh on me.

Why is it so??

Shouldn’t I look like a diva too? What is it? Is the light wrong? Is it editing that makes others look good while I look pale and sick? Is it hair and makeup? What is it?

I asked all these questions to myself. For a long time, I thought it was just me. My skin was probably bad, that my hair needed something done and all in all I couldn’t pinpoint the problem but I thought it was me.

The trigger

One day we went out with friends. It was supposed to be a casual thing and I was wearing a white t-shirt and blue shorts with my hair tied.

We finished our lunch and were on our way out when someone thought we should check out this new place that had opened in that complex.

As we went there, we saw people all dressed up and entering this place. They did not exactly say no to us (though the lady eyed me from top to bottom), however, one of our friends was not wearing shoes so we were not allowed.

That felt bad. I mean what’s the point of all the money if you can’t use it to make yourself look polished? That is when I decided to do something about it.

That was when I googled this,

“How to always look put together?”

“How to look expensive?”

“How to always look polished?”

And that is when I realised there is so much more to an outfit than just the trends.

Pillars of an overall good wardrobe

The three most important things when it comes to your clothes is

  1. Colour and colour combinations.
  2. Texture/ material.
  3. The shape of your clothes.

Now there is something I NEVER thought about… how does a particular colour reflect light and highlight your face.

DAMN how could that be a thing?

But well, it is.

When I did a little pink and orange test it was clear that one colour looked better than the other.

You don’t have to look closely to see how pink makes my skin look a little sad. It highlights my blemishes and whatnot.

We shall talk about texture and shape in some other post because this one is about season colour analysis.

So, once I realised that some colours can make me look better I needed to know which are my colours.

Still, most of these seasons and examples etc are for white skin :( However, I was able to figure a few things out that helped me.

I have seen a lot of people getting very confused about analysis and since everybody is different it must be hard for some as compared to others.

However, for me it was easy.

My undertone is warm. I have visible green veins, orange looks better on me, gold looks good on me and cream looks better than white.

Now let’s talk about hue, value, and chroma.

Hue generally refers to the name of the colour but in this case, we only take cool and warm into consideration. Which basically is your undertone.

Value refers to the lightness and darkness of a colour.

Chroma is the saturation of the colour, which is essentially the amount of grey in a colour.

So I decided to try DARK AUTUMN colours for me and was blown because brown/coffee was my best colour. A colour I have never really worn in life.

Anyway, that’s it for today. In my next post, I will share how I did my own colour analysis. Are you game?
